Nobody is claiming the Middle East is now or has ever been just about stoning. The claims of barbarism come from the fact that it happens AT ALL. A cruel and barbaric practice which in my opinion,has no place in a civilised society.
OF COURSE, not even the most conservative lslamic countries,such as say the Kingdom of The Sauds is completely barbaric. (at least not by seventh century standards) However, some do appear to have a few laws and customs which seem a little extreme to western eyes.
Do I care? In the abstract,yes, emotionally, no..I have neither the desire nor the intention of visiting any of the Gulf states. I really could not care less about the laws and customs other counties choose to follow, SO LONG AS as they do not effect me or my country. Should that ever happen, THEN we will have a problem.
