Kitan's always struck me as a bitter, desperate and cheap. I'm sure his sentiment is relatively sincere, but I also I believe there's nothing he wouldn't say to appear brash and edgy...most likely because he doesn't as much confidence in his intellect as he leads people to believe.
It's all part of his charm, really.
