Implies to me that he managed to get away. If this isn't the case, then maybe there is a little hope for when the aliens come and flay people in brutal and unnecessarily violent/cruel ways ^_^
It's incredibly easy to stab someone, especially when they're utterly unawares of your intentions and you're in a frenzy. It only took a few minutes for a deranged motherfucker on some Greyhound bus to sever another guy's head like a year ago.
And with a decent blade and simply whirling around, most people won't even try charging you. After all, who wants to be next?
Shock and revulsion over a sudden jet of gore spilled everywhere is an excellent way to paralyze the opposition as well.
What a vile piece of shit....
The article makes it sound like it was done in seconds, and as incredibly easy as it is to stab someone: it's really hard to cut through bone. Hence I can understand severing a head in a minute or so, but not in 14 swift stabs in and out.
I would be charging right in. I will be cut, probably painfully, at lest once. A crazy person with a knife is a threat that needs to be neutralized immediately.
Revulsion I can understand, so long as it doesn't get in the way of getting the job done.
I agree that he is a vile piece of shit, but I also think that the implied timeframe is swifter than is particularly realistic.

I feel shitty saying it, but if I was in the supermarket with kids, which I usually am because I have nieces, nephews and a stepson, and that happened, I would probably have left and called the cops. Chances are, she was dead within the first few stabs. There are an awful lot of ways to die by getting stabbed in the neck, arteries, airways and your spinal column don't leave many chances for survival. That totally sucks, though. Unfortunately, Monsieur Crazy Person probably thought he was doing the right thing. Insanity is a scary thing.
I agree that there was no chance of saving her... but while a crazy person is busy stabbing a corpse further is the perfect window of opportunity to disarm it or otherwise neutralize it. I suggest leaving and calling the cops is wasting too many valuable seconds, but I understand the behavior from those that are not prepared to engage an unexpected enemy immediately, as they would probably just get themselves killed.

It would only take 5 to 7 seconds at the most to stab a person 14 times. No one in a supermarket is going to have reaction time faster than that. Besides if I happened accross an individual who had a human head in his hands that he himself had just REMOVED from it's prior owner ... I wouldn't be the one volunteering to take him down first.
EDIT: Looks like I should've waited just a couple minutes longer to read Syn's post. Doh!
More likely 8-11... otherwise you're making a stab inside of half a second repeatedly. One can scarcely move their arm that fast *without* the resistance of the weight in the knife, the impact, and the meat/bone. And pulling a butcher knife out isn't the easiest thing in the world either.
If you're in a supermarket in alaska, chances are there are some of the people in there are armed with a loaded gun, and chances are that person with said gun is or has been military at some point You might not be the one volunteering to take such a creature down... but then you aren't everyone
