Just because muslims do crazy shit doesn't mean that the crazy shit is muslim.  That's a classic false syllogism.

I've met plenty of respectful, kind, intellectual muslims, who would never do that shit.

Frankly, I think it's more regional-- some of the Arab and African cultures are just totally fucked up by our standards.
