I think it's just a collision of old ideas and new technology. There might be (and that article seems to indicate that there is) some immediate negatives to the massive availability of pornography following the communications explosion of the early 90s and the instant and near-unlimited access to information that we enjoy today.
With any sort of huge paradigm shift like this, there's going to be friction, and I think that's what we're seeing. The article touched on the lack of comprehensive sex-ed in schools, and I think this will force states to rethink this. It's no coincidence that the highest porn consumption rates are associated with the places with the worst sex-ed and women's rights (that also holds globally, just look at Pakistan for christ's sake).
So yes, I think that there are some immediate issues that we're seeing right now, although I'm disappointed that the article provides no links or references to the studies that they cite - it would be nice to examine the data for ourselves. However, I think that that's part of the growing pains for a society that continues to expand the availability of information for its citizens.
Additionally, we have to keep in mind that this a correlation, not a causation. Instead of looking at it like 'higher porn consumption leads to worse attitudes towards sex and women,' it could just as easily be 'those with worse attitudes towards women and sex (which could be borne of a bad sexual culture in one's home city/state), tend to consume more porn.'
