I can empathize since we in America have a rule about churches being under obligation to stay out of politics. In theory, we have separation of church and state. In return for non-profit status, a church is supposed to respect that boundary. A church that wantonly violates this rule can have it's non-profit status stripped away. ...in theory. In reality, churches on both the left and right (but mostly the right wing) get involved all the time in political matters with no consequences.
In truth, I think it's unrealistic to think that such public figures or organizations, both of which have a history in dominating political life, could easily abstain from any political activity.
