You may not want every idiot to be entitled to a deadly wepon, but every idiot -isn't- entitled to a deadly weapon...so....what are we talking about?  

According to the American Constitution and my own country's laws, every idiot can indeed obtain a weapon.

Wrong. Woefully, fantastically, impressively wrong. There are mountains of legislation regarding who can and cannot obtain a gun, when and where it can be used -for what-, and ways that a person who could once obtain a gun loses that ability. None of that stops people from breaking the law, but that;s not exactly useful or informative either.

You just have to have a clean record, and in the case of my country, do a psychological test. Which you can repeat at your leisure until you finally pass. Even easier in America where gun shows don't require any background check.

I don't have to check whether or not a person has a license to sell my car to them p2p, either.  Not that it matters, since gun shows aren't our problem. Most of our problem guns come from licensed dealers, who -are- required to do a background check. Guess what, they pass. Those guns are then sold or stolen, p2p, at places -other- than gun shows. Like, living rooms. Unless you think that a bunch of rednecks descend into compton to arm the local demographic........

I don;t think that this loophole is our gun problem, I;m all for closing it...but it;s convenient that politicians have framed our problem as such, because closing that loophole is something they can do with no sweat off their backs. It satisfies their constituents -doesn;t cost them revenue..because those sales are untaxed-, doesn't step on the toes of the gun biz, and doesn't actually solve the problem...so they can refer to said problem later as a continued argument for their existence and inclusion in government.
