In doing so you are discouraged from going out and building real relationships with real people. Furthermore, someone who becomes really involved in this may establish some unrealistic expectations for any future girlfriend they may have. The "girl" on the computer is always there specifically and only for you, and always perfect, and never needs anything from you, and never fights with or argues with or challenges you. Real girls have lives and needs and personalities of their own.
I'm on the opposite end of on this if it makes you happy go on and do it.
I second that dyresand, makes all the sense in the world to me. The customer base who would buy this are not causing harm to anyone. An added benefit would be fan development , look at Second life for example. That program sparked so much user created content that it became a massive online store. If a user developed a thong-bikini skin for the character to wear, he or she could sell it for a fair price. This technology could also become a major player in the next evolution of pornography. But, it does have it's con's. What if a user developed a rape mod? Would that increase a person's odds of committing an actual real rape?
