You know who she is? That's Rae Heim, the first girl to run the length of the United States totally barefoot (except for the rare occasions where she had to put on flip-flops when weather got too much for her soles, and, as you can imagine, that threshold had to be damn high.)

A couple years ago, in college, I met a girl who almost never wore shoes. And, no, she wasn't the girl in the photo. She seemed to like me, and she was the only girl my age I've met who actually reacted positively to my complimenting her feet, but it was not to be, and, as soon as I told her I wanted to be her boyfriend, she said two words that guaranteed that would never happen. I don't hold much ill will against her. I even told her that if she ever found Ms. Right, I'd perform the ceremony myself. She has not taken me up on my offer.
