From the pics I'm seeing, they were already heading diagonally for the grass when they got into the crushcrete, skidded across a small portion of the crushcrete, and then got into the soft grass. What I find somewhat odd is I can't find a single pic that shows the wings in landing configuration. In all the pics I can find, the flaps and slats are stowed. I would expect the plane to still be in landing configuration but then again, I'm not type rated in the 373 nor any other transport category aircraft so I for all I know, that could be completely normal.
I am absolutely not a conspiracy guy. I don't buy into any tampering with hardware theories or anything like that. And generally, you don't get to the point of being hirable into a chartered 373 position without a boatload of previous experience. Which is why you almost never see chartered transport category aircraft going into the cruchcrete. So what went wrong here? Was the crew over tired for some reason? That would be my first guess. I'm sure the NTSB report will give some insight.
