It is interesting how this particular community of christian leaders uses self-loathing as a tool for betterment rather than condemning it.
To go ahead and tell god to change you into something else would seem rather presumptive to me. As if god did not cook you properly and you're sending the order back to the chef. That's likely a bad analogy, but you probably get my point.
I think whats most annoying about this whole idea however is once again the uber-religious crowd rejecting the findings of a unified medical community and going about "fixing" the gays anyway.
How horrible that must be for them. Imagine, if someone told you or I, "from now on - we want you to be attracted to men." Difficult, would be a HUGE understatement.
