An example of a law of logic is the law of non-contradiction. This law states, for instance, that it cannot both be true that I like onions and that I don't like onions at the same time, and in the same way.
Logic is a set of rules for reasoning. It's based on observation, what reasoning produces useful results and what reasoning doesn't. Two contradictory statements can't both be true simultaneously.
