I think for theist and atheist like need understand that Religion, Any religion is a double edged sword. Yes it help one cut quickly to the basics, The gospel, Sin, Atonement, fellowship, worship and praise... But on the other side All religion fall short in some form or fashion. Which is the other side or blade of the sword.
I have seen too many 'good people' put all they had in religion and came out with nothing. why because we are not supposed to worship our methods of worship, but use our method of worship to find God and establish/build our own personal relationship with him. Religion can only take one so far. Then ultimately it will always fail. Why? Because God does not want us worshiping religion/Our methods of worship. He wants direct contact/communication with His people. That is why He has poured out the Holy Spirit. However 'religion' trys to sell you something else. "A true form of worship." a Guarantee because that is what people want. They want to know they are safe before they venture out.
As most of you know though if you challenge this 'guarantee' it can not hold up to scrutiny. Again it is not supposed to as I have said many times in the past religion is like the house built on sand in the parable of the wise and foolish builders Jesus told. When the winds and rains come, the house on build on the sand collapses. This collapse is the believer's faith. Only the house/faith built on the Rock/Jesus can survive the storms of life.
Meaning only a belief built on the God/Christ of the bible can stand up to scrutiny.
Don't get me wrong for some (those who only been given the one bag of gold/talent) Religion is a must as they must follow the rules as it is all they can understand. However if you find yourself challenging 'religion' then God demands more from you. A deeper knowledge and a deeper understanding. While religion is a good start, by no means can it contain full knowledge of a boundless God.
