I believe that when someone joins the army/fight for a cause they are ready to kill, and die.

Well, there are certainly different degrees of homicide. Clearly, killing someone in a combat situation is different that shooting someone in their sleep.
That being said, simply becoming a soldier doesn't make all of your actions laudable - a lot of horrific, unjustified, mind-numbing atrocities have been perpetrated by people in uniform.
