Even though I was in the military, I can't identify with this. I stayed the hell away from anything relating to combat. Sure, I went through the basics of it, but it wasn't ever real then... right?
I don't think any soldier is ever ready for the reality of combat until they are actually there. Even then, I know people who were there and they weren't ever ready at any time. This is why PTSD is so common.
