Apparently this is happening in Minnesota with a teen who wants to transition into a woman and the mom is saying no. Was curious to know yall's opinions on the legal side of things.
If someone identifies as a gender that doesn't match their private parts, should refusing them and forcing them to conform count as child abuse? That's probably the biggest question to answer.
The thing is though, the surgery is extreme and irreversible. We're talking about a physical male getting his penis and scrotum cut off, getting breast implants, and changing the bone structures of the face to make them look more feminine. And for a physical woman, it's just as drastic. There are people out there who do regret getting it. I can completely understand a parent saying "no" to their teenager and just letting him/her wait until they are an adult and more mature to make such a drastic, irreversible, life changing decision.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
