He was a pretty well known anti-semite. The Ferengi are a transparent laundry list of medeival stereotypes about jews. This was brought up by writers, as a potential pr problem...and dismissed by the studio. Nimoy and Shatner (both jews) had no illusions regarding the man, themselves. Not at all remarkable or surprising, if you think about it. Very much a product of his time and culture. Born in the twenties to texan southern baptists, lol.
