I was not thrilled with what he did with the first Star TreK, however, I am not unhappy he rebooted it, because the 3rd one feels like it's getting back on track and I look forward to new ones under other directors.
Star Wars TFA has its problems (Hint: it wasn't the girl that was the main problem!), but I still enjoyed it WAAAY more than episodes I, II or even III. And I am also happy to see more new Star Wars stories. At least it isn't the 3rd remake of Spider Man in a decade! If they keep doing new and not remakes, I'm open to giving each one a chance.

I'm not about to hate on Force Awakens or his Star Trek films, but I also ultimately don't think they're worth defending. They're commercial products made to pander to as many as possible (hence the female lead w/ black supporting role) to turn a profit as quick as possible.
Yes, they are commercial products, like many other fun and even good films. It's not like everything he does is shit, lol.
I'm glad you aren't hating on them though.
