Star Wars - does it have a future?

Star Wars - does it have a future?
Since Disney bought it, Star Wars has had its ups and downs.

The first two movies of the last trilogy have been a serious let down. And it seems with Abrams helming the last movie, we're likely to get more of the same.

Rogue One, on the other hand, was in my personal opinion, the best SW movie since Empire.

Then we have Solo. While kinda fun it wasn't a great movie.

On the TV front, the animated shows have, for the most part, been great. They have filled out the gaps between movies very well. I'm not loving what little I've seen of the new animated shw, "Resistance", but I'll judge it on its own merits.

And the new live action show, "The Mandalorian" shows promise but we'll see about that, too.

So, should we be optimistic or pessimistic about the future?

I would be optimistic about 'Star Wars' having no future at all.  It's time to drown that puppy.  And 'Dr. Who'.  'Star Trek'.  'James Bond'.

And - quite frankly - J.K. Rowling has enough money, so Harry Potter can go the way of the dodo for all of me.

I'm just waiting patiently for them to release the new movies with "Smellorama ™".
MMMM, I'm picturing Chewy smelling like an unwashed wet dog! (or my money back!)

For me to get excited they'd need to start printing the tickets on blotter.

There's a hell of a lot that needs improving but I still like it.

Execute Jar Jar Abrams and the guy who made the Last Jedi, replace them with the guy behind the animated shows and I think you'll be onto a winner.

Of course, my favourite SW character actually comes from the Clone Wars animated series.

I happened a long long time ago.  Since it ain’t happening now,  I am guessing it won’t happen in the future either.

Dodgy

My hope is it will have no future. I think the fantasy franchise thing has become a leadenweight upon imagination, creativity, and has made the entire genera a cesspool of self reference.

Huh. I liked THE new films.
Haven't seen solo though, and don't feel THE need.
And thought rogue one was half-good.
First half wasn't. Second half was amazing.

I could bear to think JJ Abrams breaths still.

If they keep making money they'll keep making them.
