He is at best Caligula without the pedigree or loyalty of the army.  Although the intelligence and the secret services seem to be taking cues from Caligula' praetorian guards.

After the election trump made a show of wanting to keep his private security, and keep the secret service at arm's length.   Similar desires to rely on his private German bodyguards while keeping the praetorian guards at arm's length did not save Caligula.
