The way to replace an incorrect or partially correct belief is to replace it with something more true, not less. The atheists and hedonists question religious faith, and then profess that the only reasonable alternatives are their own belief systems, which are actually much more questionable and have far worse track records. One has only to look at the French revolution, Communist Russia or China, or the Japanese Empire to know that socialism, rationalism, and atheism haven't done well by us.
Many of their criticisms are valid of course, just not the solution that they offer.
What belief system is it you think we must have on account of our being unpersuaded that 'gods' exist?
