That's a hell of a lot of money. $750,000 for the goddamned chair the Bishop sits on. Three-quarters of a million dollars for a chair which gives not one penny return on investment.
Yeah, the opulence of the church is obscene.
Never mind the fact that they created their own banks so their financial transactions couldn't be traced as easily.

So much that author Gerald Posner wrote hundreds of pages chronicling the institution's financial scandals in his new book, God's Bankers.

This seems a bit silly to me. Yes, the tours are "free", but the point is to leave donations in the collections baskets, if you can. Just like at mass. I'm sure if they were paid tours, you would be complaining that we charge people for it lol. Once you've decided to villainize an entire group of people, it becomes a case of "damned if you do and damned if you don't," and you'll always find things to complain about them because you've already made up your mind that they're no good.
(the "you" I use here is a general "you" and not aimed at anyone here specifically)
I also think it's very much out of place to insinuate that I'm a hypocrite for saying it's sad to see someone spending $100,000 on one cheeto, and that doing so is in any way comparable to how we are as Catholics. For reasons I've already explained.
No one has to decide to villainize the Catholic church. They do that just fine on their own.
