When you stop reading faithfully and start reading the Bible critically, your eyes are opened to how ridiculous it is.
Proverbs was rammed down my throat for years, but reading it now, I hardly take it for an undeniable source of wisdom. Proverbs is mostly a father telling his sons to stay away from thugs and hoes. He tells them to listen to their parents and authority figures. He tells them don't be stupid, but not everything he says is necessarily true.
Proverbs 3:5 is translated by JWs as "Do not lean on your own understanding", and it gets repeated all the time. All the time. This verse does more psychological harm than good, as it is used to teach people to give up critical thinking and individualism.
And going with the OP, yeah, this divides the world between us and them.
