To inject a little humor, and explain how I ended up becoming such good freinds with Touma, a man I had nothing in common with whatsoever....
I was in a very dark place, as I've mentioned. I was forced to carry out orders which, to me, seemed cruel and pointless. My dream of glory had died, I was very far away from home, and the woman I originally "joined for" had slept with my best friend...who proceeded to sleep with my sister..apparently in the process discovering that he was in fact gay. I'd known him since we fell out of the cradle and said hi to each other. Touma was the only guy I really had any opportunity to talk to. Nothing like a 20 mile hike over 5 days without seeing another human being to help two guys bond.
I'm actually still in touch with my freind. Though this all went down years ago, I saw him a few months back. I punched him square in the jaw the moment we got close enough and said "you know why!" Then I helped him up and we got shitfaced, he introduced me to his boyfriend, big corn fed motherfucker from Iowa, nice guy.
