No. It is eternal separation from God directly resulting from our free choice to reject him. God does not put us there, our actions put us there.
Don't you think that simple erasing of the souls consciousness is a more just punishment for rejecting Gods good will? Coincidently that's what most of the non believers believe into.

I feel like hell and especially eternal is a masochistic wishful thinking.
