Through my 25 years of living I was too focused on myself. Yep I can say it with full confidence; I rarely help people, I only did extensivly in college, for 1 year, and it was to impress a girl. She wasn't impressed. End of story. After that I got my Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis.
In Arabic, this kind of people is called "مصلحجي"; pronounced like "Maslahgee"; in for their own interest only. If somebody didn't watch their back; this type of people can literally overload the person with shit to fetch an interest they need, then just vanish, fetch an interest then leave one with a broken back.
People just expect us to give so much, while receive back so little.
It's not fair.
We deserve to like ourselves, just like a "Maslahgee" like themselves. So take your time; Mamacita.
