That's not even remotely related. They are cheaper, yet not to the point of them being affordable to everyone. Just one example. Only ten years ago, I had to have a thousand to buy a half decent computer. Today I only need 300. Add to this inflation and you get the picture.
People indebt themselves because they don't want to be seen not to follow the latest hype. They're not indebting themselves over everyday goods.
