The significance of the egg is that it is a symbol of fertility and that was what the original Easter was celebrating. Christianity
then came after and simply appropriated it for itself. The egg in that case can be said to symbolise the re birth of Jesus even
though this event never actually happened and none of the four Gospels make any reference in respect of it to eggs anyway
