It seems to me that you haven't spent much time among minorities because if you did you would understand that they are just people like you and me. They have the same wants and desires in life as white people do. You don't need to treat them like something fragile and special, but rather like you would treat anyone else. If a person is right, he's right and if he's wrong. Tell it like it is. I served for 20 years in the military along side of men and women of every race and we were all just men and women in green uniforms. I've lived in countries where I was a racial minority and I've also lived in neighborhoods in the US where I was a minority and my kids attended schools there in which whites were about 2% of the school population. I'm quite familiar with needs and aspirations of people of all races and colors.
You didn't answer my question about why people who are not white men own their guns. I'll answer it for you. It's for the same reasons most white men own guns. Maybe they like to hunt, shoot skeet or take target practice and shoot cans off a log. Maybe they own a gun for home security reasons as I do. Maybe they are bad guys, like some whites, and want to use them to commit robberies or rob stores or even commit murder.
As for the question of racism. I don't see races, I just see people in need. My church is located in the inner city and I help provide food, clothing and other essentials to the homeless of all races, who roam the streets and sleep in our courtyard. We don't ask them what race they are before we help them.
We don't need endless academic conversations among people about how much discrimination goes on. We need to provide a level playing field for educating our children and training that will allow people to obtain an education that will allow them to find decent jobs. We need to work on overcoming social problems, like unwed motherhood, that ravage the family in all population groups, but more so in the black communities. Why should a couple get married when their welfare payments would decline? We need systems that will encourage families to stay together.
As far as companies discriminating against minorities, high tech companies are crying out for qualified people and are hiring minorities from other countries because we're not producing qualified people to fill those jobs. I guarantee that a qualified minority would be hired. I know I was born with racial privilege, as were most of those in this forum. What do you want me to do about it? I've always worked for my money. In the military I saw numerous minority men and women move up faster than me because they were willing to work harder for it. Many of them were probably just smarter than me. You're not just going to beat everyone over the head with their white privilege and expect it to suddenly go away. We need to work on ourselves and not treat any racial group as special, but rather just men and women who are pursuing the same things as we are.
If you want to understand what we need to do to fix the problems of racism and discrimination move into a minority neighborhood. Send your kids to the local schools and develop relationships with your neighbors. Shop where they shop and eat at the same restaurants. These things will work better than endless academic discussions.
