They would rather see America go up in flames instead of actually having someone that will do good for the country? Anyone remember that stupid picture of Jesus and Trump? Do they honestly believe that Jesus is "guiding" Trump? I really just think a person that is still supporting Mr. Trump has something wrong with them. Does the concept country over party mean anything to these people anymore?
It would depend on the individual. I would however say that the GOP for 36 years have used the vile tactic and unfortunately successfully so, the slur that anyone questioning the top earners and the religious right, have gotten falsely painted as anti private sector and anti religion. I also don't think the GOP gerrymandering in that 36 years has helped, but nether has voter apathy by democrats has helped.
Other than that no. I have a best friend who is a liberal in Oklahoma, and like me, he has talked to his family and says they agree on just about everything but as soon as party gets mentioned, his family shuts down. My own mother was a mostly GOP voter her entire life. But to her credit, even she couldn't stand Trump's vile hateful demagoguery.
I am sure there are Trump supporters whom are only supporting the party but wish he would shut his trap. Their problem is that he wont. It is more a matter of compartmentalizing for those than it is being mentally ill. Having said that, Trump won still by using fear and demagoguery and there were just enough motivated on the far right to push him to his win.
No, not all of his supporters are mentally ill, but they still have to wake up and accept that they have a very dangerous person as the head of their party.
