What we have in America, is not a democracy. It is more akin to a republic, with heavy plutocrat (corporatist) intervention.
I understand that. I assumed the OP was referring to democracy in general, which has actually failed in history. And republics are very fragile, in the sense that they can transform permanently when equilibrium is breached. Leaning too far one way or the other can lead to a type of autocracy or mobocracy (tyranny by the majority). Both are quite similar when you get down to it, and neither are healthy. Americans do not seem interested in keeping the republic in good health.
