I don't know about you guys but I find cooking great fun, and quite relaxing. I thought if anyone else was interested we might exchange a couple of quick and easy recipes (feel free to bash in some atheist meal titles)! Being a student I've come up with one or two ;-)
Flying Spaghetti Monster Bolognese ;
- Ingredients -
500g Lean Steak Mince
5/6 Strips of Streaky Bacon
1 Green Bell Pepper
1 Red Bell Pepper
1 Large Onion (Red or White)
2 Shallots
4/5 Mushrooms
2/3 Sticks of Celery
2 Cloves of Garlic
1 Medium Carrot
2 Tins of Chopped Tommatoes (400g)
200g Tommatoes Puree
1 tsp Oregano
1 tbsp Red Wine Vinegar
Basil
Olive Oil
Salt & Pepper
- Method -
1. First you need to prepare your ingredients, this is mostly done to taste (I like mine quite chunky, others don't) As a general guide you want to slice the peppers, onion and mushrooms and dice your celery and carrots. Also cut the bacon into small strips.
2. Finely crush and chop the garlic along with the shallots, add them into a large saucepan along with some olive oil. Let them cook untill they have taken on a little colour then add the mince, you wants to cook the mince untill it is thoroughly browned and all the excess liquid is driven off. Once that is done add the bacon and cook for a further 2/3 minutes.
3. Once the bacon is cooked add the onions, peppers, carrots, mushrooms and celery and cook for around 6/7 minutes.
4. Add the chopped tommatoes and puree and mix thoroughly then add the oregano and red wine vinegar (if you overdo the vinegar add a little sugar to take the acidity off).
5. Finely chop a few basil leaves and add them to the sauce, stiring them through then add salt and pepper to taste (The bacon is quite salty so don't overdo it).
6. Bring the sauce to the boil, then allow to simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours, this allows all the flavour to mix and the vegetables to soften.
Serve with pasta and if you like a free basil leaf and grated parmesan ...
(Serves 3 - 4)
