It could be that they did care that he is likely racist but still saw him as a lesser evil over Hilary, so begrudgingly voted for him for that reason. I feel I personally know quite a few people who fall into this category.
This young lady knows exactly why Trump won.
If the Democrats would have picked Sanders, I believe he would have won. I didn't like Sanders either personally, and damn sure wouldn't have voted for him, but he had a stronger following that Clinton supporters would have gotten behind as opposed to the other way around.
