Just so you all know, my parents wouldn't kick me out of the house if they found out that I'm an atheist. Neither of them believe in Hell and don't hate other religions. My mom is religious only because it makes her feel comfortable. She's very permissive, and I think she could handle the truth, or at the very least she wouldn't punish me. My dad on the other hand is kind of obsessed with religion. He's obsessed with everything, he wasn't very indoctrinated with religion.
Dad can be verbally violent and is stubborn, so I can't tell him, not until I'm financially stable at the very least.
About the situation in Romania, most of the population is religious, but many don't believe in Hell and don't hate other religions. The country used to be communist, at that time religion lost some of its power. Now religion is taught in schools from 1 to 12 grade, the fundamentalist way. Not all teachers respect the system though, my present teacher doesn't use the manuals, he talks to us more about other themes than religion and he let's us believe what we want. He even said out loud that he doesn't have anything against gays!
My teacher before him is the exact opposite, she told us about Heaven and Hell, that christianity is the best religion, we weren't allowed to have other opinions, and she said that homosexuality is the worst sin.
The school has build a little church in the yard, and we don't even use it. I went one time with my class, when the church was ready, but that was all. Since then I only saw people that aren't students or teacher at my school going to this church. I told my mom about this, and she replied that the church accepts believers. WTF? I love my mom, but that answer is stupid. I'm an atheist, and I'm happy that I don't have to go to this church, and even I think that what they're doing is bullshit. If they want a church for the town, build a church for the town. Don't make it in a schools yard and then let anybody, but the ones who go to the school enter it.
Romania isn't nearly as dangerous as the Middle East, but it's sure chaotic and stupid.
