What the Hell Is Up With The Navy Lately?

I was under the impression that we've mastered flight in three dimensions to the point we have passenger airlines. Given that, how the fuck is our navy, which really has to deal with two dimensions of movement, running into civilian ships?
Do they not have a grunt to stand on deck to prevent this shit? Slave to the Patriarchy no more
