They didn't need to switch it, but they did. Once they decided to do it, they should have just switched it and not made an official announcement. Maybe they did that, because it seems they made the decision last week, right after the Charlottesville Nazi Rally. Sensationalized news has a way of getting out.
I refuse to get worked up about it. If they would have kept him there, meh. Now that they've moved him, meh.
For me, it's more about the fact that *anyone* would potentially be offended by an Asian guy who's name is Robert Lee. I just think that is absolutely assinine. I mean, Lee is an Asian name! Lol. Other than that, you are right that if it was a mutual decision between he and ESPN there is no reason for anyone to care either way.
I know if it were me, and I had the option to move, I would. I wouldn't want to give any of those assholes a chance to rally in 'my' name.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
