In any case, I'm racking my brain here trying to figure out how being less supportive of people who live in poverty could possibly be counted as a "pro". That's the point of social welfare systems. To me, it seems slightly more worthwhile than corporate welfare systems.

Neither are. I don't pay extra taxes to support the Trump brand or coal industry (aside from Obama's added taxes). Even then, it puts people to work and isn't subsidized. People are dumb enough to pay for the trump brand and people it creates revenue for them and Trump. It puts people to work and creates work. Kind of an ignorant brand, I'll give you that. But it's not a welfare brand.

There are some business subsidies that I disagree with as well. I think the choice to bail out the banks and loan industries for the choices that they consciously made before, during, and after the recession was just absolutely we-tall-did. Sofa-king-we-tall-did.

On the social welfare part… It is my fault that I painted that statement with such a broad brush. Poor over statement on my end.

Some people do live in poverty for situations outside of their own control and they do need and deserve assistance. I'll never complain about the taxes that I pay (though I’m sure little to none goes to him) for Catfish Joe that has some mental issues and lives under a bridge about a mile or so from my plant. I would venture to guess that he doesn't receive a fraction of the help that he should actually be getting. I’ve given him money and I’ve picked up pizzas for work and given him one while he stood by the road yelling at cars. The guy’s a little scary really.

There is a guy that lives outside of Three Rivers, Michigan. I have friends and family there and see him all the time when I visit. All I know is that he is an older military veteran (hearsay), he lives in the woods north of Three Rivers (not sure where), and any time I have seen him out he is collecting bottles and cans on the side of the roads typically pushing his bike. What he does in the winter up there I couldn’t even imagine and I can’t even begin to fathom how horrible that would be up there in the winter. I’ve pulled my car over on the side of the road and offered him money and he looked away, kept pushing his bike, and said “Don’t need it. Don’t want it.” I’ve seen his bike at a gas station and put anywhere from $10 to $50 in the zip up lunch box on the front of his bike, as have a few other folks. The guy doesn’t have a “paying” job, but he’s doing what he can. Again, he isn’t getting a fraction of the assistance that he needs. Judging from his response to me, I unfortunately don’t see him asking it.

Two of many many thousands of instances where it is needed and I do believe should be endorsed and supported. I’m a republican and I have friends that are hard core republican business owners and managers as well. I don’t know a one of them that doesn’t feel the same way and hasn’t done similar things in the previously mentioned situations.

HOWEVER;

The welfare that I don’t support is the meth head, drunk, lazy person, etc. etc., that has no desire or intention of working or bettering themselves. They are content with however much they get per month is food stamps and a welfare check. That should absolutely come to a screeching halt. Assistance to kick their habit, yes. Assistance to become better educated so that they can better support themselves and their family, sure. But food stamps and check each month be can they simply choose not to, that’s a true welfare queen.
