Why smart machines are a threat to the way humanity currently exists

Earlier, machines replaced human muscles and humans ruled over them with the brain. Once that brain too gets replaced by a machine, humans won't be of much use, would they?

Just because we don't have a functioning human level AI doesn't mean the threat is any less because large portions of what we do can already be done by AI and they can do it better than us, and AI is still improving every day... IBM recently launched a project to build an AI that can adapt to situations and the initial results look promising
