Similarly, most indigenous Australians will react badly (IE will attack you with the nearest blunt object) if you refer to them as a 'coon', 'sambo', 'boong' or 'abo'. Calling an indigenous person a 'coconut' (brown outside, white inside) is the same as calling an African American an 'oreo'.
I'm well aware that if you emotionally work up the wrong people you will have a very big problem on your hands (they might hurt you). That's why you have to know how the societies operate to determine whether you will get hurt or not.
