Someone suggested I get out more. As we rank near the bottom on public transportation, and I have epilepsy, are you volunteering to drive me?
For example, from our own intelligence service, the CIA's World Fact Book.
On life expectancy at birth, the United States ranks 50th.
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications...2rank.html
On education expenditure per person, the USA ranks 43rd, behind countries such as Cuba.
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications...6rank.html
On per capita income, the USA is 11th.
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications...4rank.html
On military expenditures, we are 24th as a percentage of GDP.
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications...4rank.html
On infant mortality we rank 177th. That's pretty good. Croatia is worse, Cuba and the Czech Republic are better, though nations with a dedicated midwifery corps consistently rank ahead of us (like the UK, but that's that socialist NHS system for you).
As a side note to this, when my 1st wife was pregnant with our son in Virginia Beach, we asked the Commonwealth of Virginia for the maternal/natal death rates of all the health care providers in Hampton Roads. All the hospitals ranked down with the third world, the midwifery clinic had never had a recorded death. No brainer, my [ex-]wife chose to have our son at home with a midwife. And the cost for all care was $700 including out to six weeks after the birth, paid for by military insurance. Compare that price to a hospital delivery.

I won't bother with public transportation; with epilepsy, I know just where we rank with that every time I need to go somewhere and have to ask someone to drive me.
The World Fact Book is a wonderful read, even its online version (the CIA sells a coffee table version of the book every year with keen illustrations and such). It shows us just how poorly we rank in the areas we deem as "development."
But on national debt, we are certainly number one.
Each nation is ranked by various items of what are seen to be military or political importance by the CIA on https://www.cia.gov/library/publications...guide.html
Just looking through the list is an eye-opener to the American who thinks "we're the greatest." We can't even keep our babies alive as well as Cuba.
The Fact Book used to be a classified publication put out every year for the Legislature and Federal officials. In recent years, the CIA has made it available as an unclassified publication.
Development is relative. And we're the poor third cousins. - James
I meant USA as being Economically developed, I can't drive for you, I don't know how to, and I am in South America (that area under Mexico)
I do feel sorry for you're first major economical crisis since the 30's but I'm just trying to put things in pesrpective here.

It's very hard argue that America is poor.
Back on topic: My argument was that the Atheism replacing religion is not a "developed" country thing (based on the G-8)
I think it is a scandinavian thing instead.
