Put in this way.
A seed will turn into a perfect copy of the plant or tree that create it in the first place.
Evolution of the consciousness can be compared to a seed that turn into a plant that is why it is said that we are the image of God.
The only difference between you or me and God is that our seed (consciousness in this case) hasn't yet become God because our individual evolution hasn't yet reach the final point better known as human emancipation.
Atheists, materialists and religious fanatics don't make their own evolution easy.
Instead of shorten the time that it takes to reach the final stage they extend the time more and more.
Smart people know what evolution is all about.
Idiots on the other end think that evolution is only a physical change and forget the most important part of the evolution which is the evolution of the consciousness.

If someone bound you gagged you and dump you in a freight wagons it will be very hard to know where you are going but if you on your free will decide to travel to Paris then is obvious that you feel your goal within.
Rik, intelligence is NOT required for evolution to occur anymore than Thor is needed as a gap answer to explain the existence of lightening. Just like you accept, and rightfully so, Poseidon is not needed as a gap answer to explain the existence of hurricanes.
The problem you have with "everything has a creator" causes the problem of infinite regress when you postulate an all powerful cognition as the factory boss. Well, if everything has a creator, then that creator has an even more infinitely complex creator, and that creator has even more complexity, and that creator even more, and so on and so on and so on.
So if you want to claim your God was not created, then the more simplistic solution to the universe is that it doesn't need a cognition to lead to it either.
But please spare us from trying to square an old book of mythology to modern science. That was then, this is now. It was understandable that people wrote, sold and bought that crap back then because they didn't know any better, we do know better now.
What would be so frightening to you to find out you are finite? How would life after you die feel any differently than you felt 4 billion years ago?

With such small mind fools think that they can understand how the whole system works or how God that is not bound by a uni dimension mind works.
Fools never think that God has a MULTI dimension mind capable of doing things that we can not even comprehend.
