If by "prove anything" you meant prove that I am not susceptible to the Christian manner of pursuasion, then I would no more go to church to prove that then I would go to an pre-school counting lesson to prove I have 10 fingers.
But I did go to church for almost a year to prove that I am ready to provide such emotional support a former devout girlfriend of mine felt she needed. As it turns out, in retrospect that was a mistake. If an adult can not exhibit independence in her faith and a separation between her private faith and what she expects another to support her in, then she was never mature enough to be in any creditably adult relationship in the first place.
