If evidence for god is in abundance, why is faith necessary?

With proof, a leap of faith is not required. Sound proofs are, by their nature, convincing.

I define leap of faith as confidence and vision in proofs that are very convincing.

To people who spend their entire lives in a very confined geographical region, say a village or a town, it is very convincing that the Earth is flat. They have proof of it, even... just look around them! Everywhere you look, all you see is a flat horizon!

Things that require you to convince yourself in order to understand them are more likely false, than true.
