The message I got is undoubtedly about love and only love but you need to have an open mind, if you read it with a prejudice you'll only see what you want to see. Just look at the 10 commandments, I don't find a pinch of hate there. Do you?
There are about 600 more of those commandments, not all of them pretty.
There are ten commandments. It doesn't tell the whole story but it does a good job of summarizing the overall contents.
Quote:Wiping out most of humanity is not love. Torturing people for eternity because they can't make sense of book full of contradictions is not love.
I disagree with your interpretation. If you think about it, the things you disagree with are the same things that led our world up to this point where someone gave birth to you and here you are telling me this, if those things didn't happen you wouldn't even be alive to type that.
Quote:Admit it, you read it with prejudice also.
Not at all. Cherry picking aside I don't find anything wrong with the overall message. Bible only teaches us to love.
Quote:So, if the bible says different things, depending on how you read it, it sounds useless for anything except a negative example to prospective writers.
If you read it like just another "book" it's just going to sound like any other book. The Bible is called the holy Bible for a reason. I read it without any prejudice and I agreed with it, I honestly don't know why the experience was different for you, to each his own I guess.
