There's another comment I left talking about friends I've had and actual news reports of Christians in other countries that are killed for their faith (it's particularly bad in the Middle East). Very unfortunate stuff.
Yes, Christians are persecuted in certain countries, and Muslims are persecuted in certain countries, and so forth. That doesn't mean they get to cry about being persecuted in countries where they're the majority and over 90% of elected officials profess the majority religion. 'We're persecuted' doesn't ring true in those circumstances, because it's much more accurate to say 'they're persecuted'. Vicarious persecution isn't admirable or becoming.
Oh, I actually totally agree with this - in countries like the USA, it's a little ridiculous the way some Christians respond to the "persecution" we face here in this country. We have no sense of what it's like to be tortured the way some people in Romania have been - the only reason I even mentioned it was because someone else brought it up and said that it doesn't happen. Period. And that's flat out wrong, even if I don't personally have a sense of what it's like to really face persecution. Because we share a common bond, yes, of course we care about it, but saying we can empathize is going a bit too far, so I agree with what you said.
