We call it murder today even when we -do- recognize the authority that issued the order. We call them warcrimes. We also reject the notion of people as property. Two subjects that elude almighty god..in his benevolent omniscience.
We hear, today, from Decent People that god can do whatever he wants with us, because he owns us. We hear, from Decent People...today.....that ethnic cleansing is kosher when yahweh commands it. That these people get god wrong is not nearly as astonishing as them having gotten those two items wrong. God, at best, is banal fiction.....the willingness to normalize or justify banal fiction by a vocal acceptance of either of those things...however, is disturbing. You'd think we might have learned something since the mythology became popular...and the point of magic book is..ostensibly, to teach us something.
Is the message really that when god does or says to do something..no matter what it is, we should stand at attention and sig fucking heil? Is there some requirement that a modern believer justify the atrocities imagined by an ethnocentric culture and attributed to god?

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
