The only way they'll get me into one of those dens of ill repute! The few times I’ve bothered to go to a church the past few years, almost all of them (except my mother’s funeral and the Christmas Eve service the year before) involved some other work of art of more redeeming value coming to it, one that stood out was a traveling chamber opera company doing their version of the Abduction from the Seraglio. It’s still a work I don’t have enough of a feel for to know if they got it right. The other two times I can remember, it was actually in small box theatres that just happened to be in the same building as a church, one an adaptation of The Seven Percent Solution in Edgewater, and a production of The Complete works of Shakespeare Abridged in Evanston. Also, does the Ryman count as a church for the purposes of this discussion? Because I went there as a tourist to Nashville three years ago.
