That's not so much a Xtian or even a religious thing. That BS is only a fig leaf.
It's a cultural thing!
This can happen – as you see – in a culture, a society where disproportional overreacting and violence by authority is considered normal and goes uncontested.
Pick your fav god to hide behind and invoke freedom of religion as a license for unspeakable acts to dependent and defenseless victims.
More acutely labeled: hypocritical sadism.
