Religious people are less intelligent than atheists

I'm late to this party and only skimmed the earlier posts so forgive me if I missed something but I'm extremely skeptical of this claim because:

Intelligence is only very vaguely defined. Have you ever noticed how nearly everybody is constantly expressing frustration about how stupid everyone else is? It doesn't take a genius to figure out that something is wrong here. Apparently, everyone is smart AND everyone is stupid. It's actually not that far off the mark. In reality, everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. I for example am pretty good at math and physics type of stuff. I'm particularly adept in the field of electronics. But I'm socially inept. The field of economics is utter gibberish to me. And I can't imagine why any guy who has ever watched Gilligan's Island would think Ginger is hotter than Mary Ann.

Our brains are all wired differently and it's quite a complicated affair. Some people are so strong in one area that they look like geniuses - yet so deficient in others that they look like idiots. Case in point is Dr. Ben Carson, a U.S. neurosurgeon who was a candidate for the Republican nominee for President in 2016. This is a guy who cut through people's skulls and performed surgeries on their brains - and he was particularly good at it. But this same guy believes that the biblical Joseph built the pyramids to store grain! So is this guy gifted or a fucking moron? Both, it would seem.

The black and white notion of people being either smart or stupid is a bit outdated. We can compare the extremes and say with confidence that Albert Einstein was in general smarter than George W Bush but even in that case, we can probably find areas where W was better than Einstein. Comparing the "intelligence" of different individuals is probably a simplistic and outmoded idea.
