I think that mental illness is the default assumption. Listen to Episode #25; the good professor discusses people who dream of becoming amputees. Mental illnesses takes a very wide form and breadth. Why should I believe that Paul had a divine experience as opposed to some sort of epilepsy?
Why do you default to that assumption? If you default to metal illness without reason, then is there something I could provide, which could change your mind? While we don't have direct statements, Paul also had two other people with him who are said to have seen and heard. Do you think this fits your theory of epilepsy?

I would ask why you think epilepsy is a better explanation? Just a guess, but I think it’s going to be begging the question.
Because there are people who have epilepsy who claim to have visions and hear voices, but once they have the proper medications, the visions and voices go away.
That doesn't tell me, why you think it is a better explanation. I'm thinking even more so, that this will be circular reasoning.
